Participate in Blinklab's study and help them advance the neurodevelopmental diagnostic process!

Blinklab's mission is to improve the diagnostic process for neurodevelopmental delays, like autism and ADHD. By participating in their study you can help them make the diagnostic evaluation process more accurate and accessible.

Why participate?

  • Support the advancement of autism research
  • Watch 2 short videos at home with your child
  • Receive a $200 gift card as a thank-you for your time

Can your child participate?

  • You have received the outcome of your child’s neurodevelopmental diagnostic evaluation in the past 12 months
  • Your child is between 2 and 11 years old

How does it work?

Their app is designed to identify early signs of conditions like autism in young children using your smartphone. During this simple at-home experience, the app observes your child's natural reactions to specific audio cues while watching two short, engaging videos. We will guide you through the six easy steps.

Screening questions

5-10 minutes

Once you’ve passed the pre-screener questions below, you’ll receive an email with a link to the onboarding website to begin onboarding. Before starting, their team will ask a few quick questions to ensure the study is a good fit for you and your child.

Parental consent form

15 minutes

Your child’s safety and privacy are our top priorities. This consent form ensures you understand the study and agree to take part. It’s a key step to protect both you and your child and to make sure everything is handled with care, transparency, and full respect for your rights. Before the form can be signed, you will need to answer a short questionnaire to make sure all the steps of the study are understood by the signees. After the form is signed, you can download it and you will receive the form in your email.

Children's assent video

15 minutes

If your child is 7 years or older, they are asked to record a short video giving their permission to participate. This ensures they understand what’s happening in a way that’s appropriate for their age, and that they feel safe and comfortable joining the study. Their voice matters too.

Diagnostic report

You will be asked to share your child’s neurodevelopmental diagnostic report. This report will be used to verify your child’s neurodevelopmental diagnosis and should contain details including your child’s full name, date of birth, name of the health care provider who made the diagnosis, facility the diagnosis was made, a diagnostic statement and the tools used to inform the diagnosis.

Note: Follow-up Individualized Education Program (IEP) reports usually don’t meet diagnostic requirements, as they focus on progress or goals rather than making a formal diagnosis. It’s recommended to submit the original diagnostic report (from within the last 12 months) or a full psychological evaluation that meets the necessary criteria.

Their team will make sure you have access to their app, which can be downloaded in the Apple App Store.

Your child watches 2 child-friendly videos
15 minutes per video
Once logged in, your child will watch a video that is tailored to be fun and engaging. During these videos, brief audio cues will be played that elicit natural responses. Their app can record these responses.

That's it!

Yes, your child’s data is kept strictly confidential. We prioritize privacy and security by encrypting all collected data and storing it securely to prevent unauthorized access. Additionally, we anonymize data, separating it from personal identifiers, such as names and dates of birth, ensuring it cannot be traced back to your child. The data is used solely to provide insights and improve our research and is never shared, sold, or used for any other purposes.

After completing the test, a $200 giftcard will be sent to you through email.

During the test, unexpected sounds are played to elicit natural reflexes. These sounds might cause slight discomfort or mild stress. However, the test is at home, includes engaging children's videos, and is quick to complete, ensuring minimal disruption for your child.

The test itself will take about 20 to 30 minutes, during which your child will watch two videos lasting 5–10 minutes each. The setup and intake process will take an additional 20 minutes or less. In total, we ask for about an hour of your time.
