A Research Study for People With Glioma (Brain Tumor)
You may be able to take part in a clinical research study testing an investigational drug called safusidenib for adults with a specific type of brain tumor (glioma).
This study is for adults whose tumor has a mutation, or change, in a gene called IDH1 (isocitrate dehydrogenase 1). Adults with IDH1-mutant astrocytoma (grade 2-4) and adults with IDH1-mutant oligodendroglioma (grade 3) may be eligible.
You do not need to know your exact tumor type or grade to apply — the study team can help check this for you.
Why is this study being done?
- Researchers want to learn whether safusidenib may:
- Slow down tumor growth
- Delay the need for additional treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation
- Be safe and tolerable for people with this type of brain tumor
- Safusidenib is an investigational drug. This means:
- It is not approved to treat glioma
- It has not been proven to treat any cancer
What is this study?
- A clinical research study for adults with IDH1-mutant glioma (grade 2–4).
- The main goal is to see whether safusidenib has an effect on tumor growth and to carefully monitor any side effects—both good and bad.
- Some participants receive the study drug or a placebo (a capsule with no active drug).
How long does participation last?
- Treatment is given in 28-day cycles
- The number of cycles depends on:
- How you tolerate the study drug, if applicable
- How your tumor responds
- You and your study doctor’s decision
- Not everyone stays in the study for the same length of time.
Who may be able to take part?
- You may be eligible if:
- You are age 18 or older
- You have a glioma (brain tumor) with an IDH1 gene mutation
- Your tumor is an astrocytoma that is grade 2, 3, or 4 OR your tumor is an oligodendroglioma that is grade 3
- Not sure about your tumor’s grade or type? That’s okay. You can still apply, and the study team can help check whether this study may be right for you.
- The research team will review all eligibility details with you.
Who cannot take part?
- You cannot participate if, for example:
- You have had prior brain tumor treatment other than surgery (some parts of the study allow prior radiation and temozolomide)
- The tumor involves the brainstem or spinal cord
- The tumor has spread to the lining of the brain or spinal cord
- You have previously received certain targeted or experimental cancer drugs
- You have significant heart disease or heart rhythm problems
Thinking about joining?
- Taking part in a clinical study is your choice.
- Before enrolling:
- The study team will explain all details clearly
- You will have time to ask questions
- You can talk with family or others you trust
- You may leave the study at any time, for any reason
